
Abidin Celal Binzet, one of the names of the figurative tradition in Contemporary Turkish Painting and who also produced works in the intellectual field of art with his writings, was born in Adıyaman in 1949. He completed his primary and secondary education in the same city. The studies he undertook during his secondary education, under the guidance of his art teacher Emrullah Bulurman, would influence his future plans. He graduated from the Gazi Education Institute, Department of Painting in 1971, where he was a student of artists such as Adnan Turani, Turan Erol, Nevide Gökaydın, Mürşide İçmeli, Nevzat Akoral, Hamza İnanç, Burhan Alkar and Mustafa Ayaz. After working as an art teacher in schools for a while, he graduated from the Public Administration Institute of Türkiye and the Middle East (TODAIE) with a master's thesis on "City and Plastic Arts" (1983). He continued his undergraduate program at Gazi University, which was converted into a university. During his time as a graphic designer at the Film-Radio and Television Education Center (FRTEM), he carried out various works such as storyboard graphic designs, book covers and caricatures, in addition to works related to the education segment of television. During that period, he won first place with one of his cartoons and the Cartoonists Association Special Award with another.
He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Painters and Sculptors Association (BRHD) between 1996 and 1998. The artist, who also worked as a lecturer at Gazi University between 1998 and 2002, has participated in many group and mixed exhibitions, especially the State Painting and Sculpture Exhibition, in addition to his personal exhibitions. He was among the founding members of the Contemporary Arts Foundation (ÇAĞSAV), which was established in 2000. In 2009, he participated in the establishment of the Çorum City Museum and donated his paintings, which he created from his impressions of the city, to the museum at the end of the exhibition. In 2010, he participated in workshops at Eskişehir Anadolu University, Giresun University, Gaziantep, Bartın, and Karadeniz Ereğli. In subsequent years, he participated in workshops organized by Konya Selçuk University, Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University, and Gazi University. In addition to various newspapers, the magazines Gösteri, Adam SANAT, and RH+SANAT published his intellectual articles on artistic issues. He has addressed contemporary issues in art through panels, panel discussions, and interviews related to his field. He has also produced radio and television programs.
The main theme in his paintings is depicted through views selected from nature, wide spaces and a clear understanding of color. In his paintings, which are constructed with a figurative approach, reflections of a world approached based on environmental impressions can be seen. Its arrangements, dominated by simple color schemes, make themselves heard along with the selected natural elements.
Binzet's works can be found abroad in England, Mexico, Sweden and France, and many private collections and in official institutions and organizations such as the Ministry of Culture, Ankara State Painting and Sculpture Museum, Central Bank, Şekerbank, Emlakbank, Vakıfbank, Ziraat Bank, Akbank, Turkish-British Cultural Association, Gazi Museum, Çorum City Museum, Anadolu and Giresun Universities, Gaziantep Sanko Holding. Three of his paintings, consisting of works he made in the capital Ashgabat, where he visited twice in 2015 as a guest of the Turkmenistan government, were displayed in the Ashgabat State Museum. The artist, who also undertakes the production of programs related to his field on radio and television, has published many articles in newspapers and magazines in which he deals with art issues and examines them from different aspects.
